CHI St. Alexius Health is a regional health network with a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services.  CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D. CHI St. Alexius Health offers a comprehensive line of inpatient and outpatient medical services, including: a Level II Trauma Center, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, a fitness and human performance center and ancillary services throughout western and central North Dakota.

Responsibilities

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:   Works under the supervision of the Staff Physical Therapist or the Physical Therapy Supervisor.  The Restorative Care Aide carries out programs setup by the Physical Therapist.  They inform the therapist of changes as needed for re-evaluation.  Programs consist of gait, exercise, or heat/cold modalities. Follow policy and procedures and the Mission and Philosophy of Community Memorial Hospital.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all exercise programs.  Encourages patients to complete daily exercise and gait.  Refusal of restorative care reported immediately.  Changes in condition reported to physical therapy immediately.
  • Gait belt utilized 100% of the time when needed.  Correct techniques and safe practices for exercise, gait and modalities are used.  Alarms re-applied 100% of the time after treatment.
  • Residents programs are carried out as prescribed by physical therapist.  Exercise changes addressed with therapist before completed by restorative care aide.  Assists Physical Therapist with quarterly reviews of residents exercise program.
  • Charts are checked daily for exercise, gait and treatment.  Changes in resident condition are reflected in the daily and monthly notes.  Charting is done daily unless approved by therapist.
  • Weekly notes completed at least one per patient but also with condition changes.  Care plans completed in timely manner.  Attends and contributes to weekly care conferences.
  • Monthly summaries are completed within a timely manner (within three working days of the end of the month).  Monthly sheets for number of patients seen versus procedures are completed within three working days following the end of the month.
  • Assists Physical Therapist, as needed, with in-patients.  Willing to assists nursing staff with resident’s daily needs, if time allows.  Fills in for Physical Therapy Tech, as needed.

Qualifications

Education:   High School Diploma.

Skills:  Ability to complete charting and documentation.


Interpersonal Skills:   Must have positive and effective skills in dealing with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, providers and other hospital staff.  Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, departments, families, visitors and patients.  Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate behavior consistent with the Benedictine mission statement.  Maintains confidentiality.  Able to respond and perform effectively if an unforeseen or immediate need arises within the department and in stressful situations.
