Responsibilities

Are you a skilled and dedicated Power Plant Engineer looking for a rewarding career where you can make a real impact? Join our team and contribute to the smooth and reliable operation of a critical infrastructure system within a leading hospital environment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Power Plant Engineer to join our dedicated team. In this vital role, you will play a key part in ensuring the continuous supply of steam energy for heating, air conditioning, and powering essential hospital equipment. Your expertise will directly impact patient care and the overall functionality of our facility.

What you'll do:

  • Keep the heart of the hospital beating: Monitor and control the generation of steam energy, ensuring a consistent supply for heating, cooling, and powering vital hospital machinery.
  • Proactive maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment, including boilers, ventilation systems, refrigeration equipment, generators, pumps, and compressors. This includes tasks such as oiling motors, changing belts and filters, and general cleaning and painting.
  • Troubleshooting and repair: Diagnose and perform minor and major repairs on power plant equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing operational efficiency.
  • Respond to emergencies: Effectively respond to trouble calls from across the hospital, resolving issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Safety champion: Maintain a safe working environment by alerting personnel to potential hazards and ensuring adherence to safety procedures.
  • Detailed record-keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed logs documenting boiler and pumping equipment operation, as well as all maintenance performed.
  • Mentor and train: Contribute to our ongoing departmental training program, sharing your expertise and knowledge with colleagues.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • Technical expertise: Two years of vocational/technical training (mechanics, electricity, and electronics) is required.
  • Hands-on experience: A minimum of five years of recent, relevant work experience in a hospital, commercial, or industrial setting is essential. Experience with boilers and related equipment is highly preferred.
  • Licensing: A City of Tacoma Class II Operating Engineers License is required (or an equivalent certification approved by the City of Tacoma within 30 days of hire). A Class I License is preferred.
  • Problem-solving skills: You are a resourceful and analytical problem-solver, able to quickly identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Teamwork and communication: You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and other departments.

Commitment to safety: You are dedicated to maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to all safety regulations.
