Responsibilities

The following duties are intended to be representative of the work performed by incumbents in this position and are not all-inclusive. Job duties may vary depending on the clinical section.


Patient Care Tech duties:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist patients with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, and other personal hygiene needs.
  • Basic Nursing Care: Monitor and document vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation), observe and report changes in patient condition, including signs and symptoms of disease, and assist with simple wound care and dressing changes. Assist with posturing and range-of-motion exercises.
  • Patient Mobility: Assist patients with ambulation, transfers (bed to chair, chair to toilet, etc.), turning, and positioning to prevent pressure sores and promote comfort.
  • Specimen Collection and Testing: Collect and process specimens as directed (e.g., blood glucose, urine for specific gravity). Assist with colon screening preparation as directed. Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose, urine dipstick).
  • Respiratory Care: Assist with respiratory treatments, including incentive spirometry, oxygen administration (monitoring flow and equipment), and nebulizer treatments. Maintain the integrity of respiratory equipment.

Patient Flow Coodinator duties

  • Coordinates unit by greeting patients and visitors, triaging phone calls, maintaining current information on locator boards; communicates scheduled tests and procedures for patients
  • Processes patients’ charts upon admission and discharge.
  • May assist with medication reconciliation upon admission.
  • May process medication calendars and micromedix for discharge portfolios.
  • Coordinates and maintains nursing unit supplies; monitors patient confidentiality; maintains a hazard-free work environment.
  • As appropriate, responds to patient/visitor requests and complaints; escalates requests/complaints to the appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Ensures correct patient type and accommodation codes on daily basis on all patients.
  • Assists MSW with patient handoff to outside facilities upon discharge, including processing of information to receiving facility.
  • Assists with patient care/bed placement assignments.
  • Assists Unit Manager with clerical responsibilities.

    Technical Skills:
  • Electrocardiography (ECG/EKG): Perform electrocardiograms according to established protocols.

Qualifications

We require: 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant (or military medical specialty training) program OR Licensed Practical Nursing program required.
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (or active NA-R and proof of passing the WA NA-C exam) or LPN with the Washington State Nursing Commission.
  • Current healthcare provider American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Basic skills in using a PC required. Demonstrated experience as a nursing assistant required.
  • Must be able to lift, move or assist patients using proper body mechanics
  • The ability to occasionally lift or push up to 50 lbs. and pull up to 100 lbs. is also required.

Preffered

  • Previous experience as a patient flow coordinator or patient care technician is preferred.

  • Familiarity with VM clinical programs is preferred.
