In addition to more than 10 family medicine providers we are part of one of the few teaching hospitals in the valley where the Dignity Health Family Medicine Residency at Northridge (affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA) has educated family physicians for more than three decades many of whom stay to serve this community.

Responsibilities

The Coordinator of Behavioral Health is responsible for oversight of programmatic implementation, sustainment, and growth of the Behavioral Health Curriculum. Manage and develop the longitudinal behavioral health education for family physicians. The Coordinator will participate in interviewing, and ranking family medicine resident candidates. Be a member of the Clinical Competency Committee for resident evaluation. Chair the residency wellness committee to aid the hospital Wellness and Activities Committee. Chair the Patient and Family Advisory Council. Conduct brief individual therapy. Present didactic lectures to psychologists, interns, residents, and medical students. Provide community outreach at Northridge Middle School. Accompany the resident physician monthly to Northridge Middle School, and answer medical questions. Provide consultation and behavioral health training to medical residents by leading two lectures a month. Participate in biopsychosocial speciality rounds in the hospital. Help to facilitate faculty development retreats and seminars.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology.
  • PSYCH:CA
  • Three to five years of experience.
  • Requires expertise in teaching. Requires effective oral and written communications skills. Requires knowledge of the accepted practices, procedures, and techniques applicable to psychology. Requires administrative/analytical skills necessary to plan, design and direct the Behavioral Science training of Family Practice Residents. Requires interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with Residents, patients, and staff. Must have the ability and flexibility in attention to daily job requirements. Must have the ability to handle several duties simultaneously. Must have the ability to independently develop resolutions to problematic situations using sound judgment and discretion. Must have the ability to analyze, interpret, and explain psychological, social, and behavioral factors involved in patient presentation.
