Responsibilities

Assesses, delivers, and documents respiratory care to include pulmonary hygiene and airway management and performs diagnostic exams as necessary. Manages all patients on ventilators and related life support equipment. Performs routine blood gas analysis. Assesses, plans, and evaluates the patient plan of care utilizing multiple respiratory modalities, respiratory therapy driven protocols, and advanced ventilation techniques.

  • Performs and documents a complete patient assessment including (but not limited to) vital signs, breath sounds, cough, and respiratory pattern with each ventilator system check and with each treatment.
  • Checks all equipment and respiratory modalities (including invasive and non-invasive), maintains alarms and documents accurately and completely.
  • Performs ABGs utilizing 2 patient identifiers, properly handles blood specimens, reports critical values, and maintains blood gas lab logs (where applicable).
  • Accurately completes patient billing.
  • Correctly charges, labels, scans and discards medications.
  • Communicates clearly and tactfully using SBAR communication.
  • Implements protocols when applicable and follows protocol guidelines. Utilizes appropriate patient interventions and documents all changes and patient data relevant to protocol utilization.
  • Prioritizes and completes therapy in a timely manner.
  • Successfully completes all required annual competencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with maintenance and cleaning of equipment and ordering/stocking supplies as needed.
  • Treats all patients, visitors, and staff with respect and dignity.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Graduate of an AMA Respiratory Therapy Program required
  • AZ Board of Respiratory Care Examiners License
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist -CRT from National Board of Respiratory Care or Registered Respiratory Therapist -RRT
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
