Responsibilities

The Pharmacist Intern is responsible for technical clerical and transportation duties for the department and is involved with the preparation distribution and delivery of medication. The intern pharmacist also performs professional duties as related to The 4 Key Processes for Medication Usage (Prescribing Preparation and Dispensing Administering Monitoring.) All work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The intern pharmacist will also demonstrate competency in patient care for neonates pediatrics adolescents adults and geriatric patients.


Qualifications
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Intern with the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of legal restrictions on the activities of pharmacy interns in a pharmacy Federal and State regulations relating to pharmaceutical transactions medical abbreviations pharmaceutical terminology and calculations prescription processing aseptic technique in the preparation of intravenous admixtures and total parenteral nutrition safe handling of antineoplastic/chemotherapeutic agents generic/trade names of medication extemporaneous prescription compounding of sterile and non-sterile products the organization of an acute care hospital and related facilities proper body mechanics proper safety practices and techniques computer skills and inventory control and supplies ordering.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with a wide variety of hospital personnel act courteously and with tact in dealing with patients visitors and the public maintain the confidentiality of hospital operations and medical status of patients teach and train others and provide education to patients staff and physicians.

This position is represented by SEIU.
