Responsibilities

This individual will serve as Market Director for five Foundations that support CHI Saint Joseph Health in Central and Eastern Kentucky.  

Primary responsibility is direct fundraising to support annual and major gifts within the market. This role will manage internal and external relationships that result in strategic support of service line programs and services.  

The MD of Philanthropy will manage a portfolio of donor prospects within our system database with the goal of managing a donor lifecycle resulting in Major giving (10,000 to $1Million+)  Focus is on identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects.  

Strategic planning, financial administration, as well as employee development is necessary in this role.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with VP for Philanthropy, hospital leaders, and national fundraising team to drive results within a large, complex health system.
  • Deliver on annual fundraising goals for the following five hospital foundations:
  • Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation
  • Saint Joseph Berea Foundation
  • Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Foundation
  • Saint Joseph London Foundation
  • Personally responsible for securing philanthropic gifts from a portfolio of 100 prospective and current donors.   Develops cultivation and solicitation strategies for each individual. Meets annual targets for donor visits, solicitations and proposals presented, resulting in major gifts raised.
  • Be responsible for proper stewardship of major gifts, and continue to engage with donors to sustain and grow the relationship.
  • Mentor staff, overseeing and making recommendations for growth and development  
  • Lead regular team meetings, in coordination with the VP of Philanthropy to share ideas, report progress and develop strategies for prioritizing the entire donor portfolio.
  • Coordinates donor interests with the priorities of Kentucky One and develops funding proposals to match the interests with needs.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all donor and prospect information at all times.


Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline

Requireed Licensure and Certficications

  • None

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Seven years’ experience in fundraising, with an emphasis on direct major gift solicitation in a campaign environment

  • Demonstrated success and experience in major, leadership or principal gifts strategies for cultivation and direct solicitation in related field

  • Five years leadership experience

PREFERRED Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree strongly
  • Development experience working in a complex academic or medical center, knowledge of fundraising database applications (Raiser’s Edge preferred)

  • Previous capital campaign experience
