Responsibilities

Franciscan Medical Group is seeking a full time (.80 FTE) WIC Certifier for the Franciscan WIC Clinic in Lakewood/Parkland. We offer a Saturday clinic to meet our clients needs once a month who are not able to make weekday appointments. 

Job Summary:
Provides nutritional assessments, certifies clients for WIC program, and prescribes food packages following all applicable federal and state program policies. Provides basic health education to WIC clients, which may include education on community resources, basic nutrition, and lactation. Work includes documenting services, scheduling client appointments, and providing other basic WIC services. An incumbent provides initial client orientation and financial screening, and contributes to the ongoing assessment of client needs.

Work requires knowledge of community health nutrition, strong customer service skills, and the ability to follow all applicable policies, procedures, and standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Certifies clients for WIC program eligibility through Nutritional Assessment, using federally mandated assessment questions to determine qualifying risk factors.
  • Prescribes individually tailored food packages for clients.
  • Provides basic health education such as basic nutrition, education, avoidance of harmful substances during pregnancy, basic lactation education, education on community resources, and other similar topics.
  • Schedules WIC clients for appointments and provides telephone communication with clients, including reminders of appointments, missed appointments, and follow-up appointments.
  • Provides and documents basic WIC services.
  • Implements federal and state WIC program policies.
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Competence: Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.
    Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in a related discipline and two years of related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job
    knowledge/abilities, 
  • OR
    Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and one year of related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities.
    Equivalent additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

License/Certification:

  • Current Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant-Registered OR Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist within 90 days of hire.
