Overview

As our Pharmacy Tech at CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson, you'll help our patients feel better by providing safe and effective medications to them. You'll help our doctors and nurses feel better knowing that you are providing accurate and timely medication to patients.

You'll build trust each day by being extremely thorough and accurate at all times. Patient safety is your top priority, so you do everything you can to ensure all prescriptions are authentic, prepared correctly both in medication type and dosing, and are dispensed appropriately, under the Pharmacist's guidance. You follow all safety protocols, including those intended to prevent infection, and you keep a clean work area at all times. You are eager to learn or help out in any way needed to keep the pharmacy running smoothly and get our patients their medications.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service performance and displays a positive attitude and behaviors consistent with the CHI Standards of Conduct and Core Values.
  • Attentively assists the pharmacist in meeting the needs of the patient and department.   
  • Using the Meditech system orders the IV and IV Admixture labels.  Accurately applies the correct label on the IV bag and prepares IV admixtures using aseptic technique and labels the IV admixture appropriately.  Pharmacy Technician must have the pharmacist check all work prior to dispensing to the floor for patient use.
  • Using the Pyxis system runs the refill medication cart fill list.  Accurately fills the Pyxis machine in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for accurately packaging medications into unit dose form.
  • In order to assure our patients receive medications that are safe to use, routinely inspects all areas of the hospital for medications that are approaching there expiration date, are stored properly, etc.
  • Preparation of sterile IV admixtures using aseptic technique.  Completes certification annually.
  • Ability to read physicians orders and compare the order to the label generated by the Pharmacist.
  • As time allows carefully checks pharmacist medication order entry work, identifying orders which may need to be re-entered because due to order entry errors or greater clarification.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Graduate from an accredited pharmacy technician training program, required. 
  • One year pharmacy experience preferred.

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • PHARM TECH:North Dakota, required. 

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English. 

  • Proficiency with computers and computer programs and applications.
