Responsibilities

PRN- Days

The exercise physiologist in the Memorial Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention Department is accountable for implementing and supervising all phases of the physical exercise program. He/she is also responsible for the patient education related to physical exercise proper use of equipment documentation and any related research.

1. Interview/assess new cardiac and pulmonary patients for entry into a phase II monitored or phase III unmonitored cardiac or pulmonary program creating a patient chart with all the necessary completed forms required for entry to program.

2. Enter all required components into the Scott Care System for participation in phase II program to include demographics medical information exercise prescription quality of life surveys shortness of breath surveys and nutritional habits surveys.

3. Be able to measure participants height weight resting and exercise blood pressure oxygen saturation at rest and exercise resting and exercise EKG.

4. Develop an individualized treatment plan to encompass the following treatment domains: exercise nutrition smoking cessation psychosocial behavior and appropriate risk factor reduction.

5. Adhere to American College of Sports Medicine Guidelines for contraindications for starting or continuing an exercise session.

6. Be able to conduct a 6 minute walk test at beginning and end of program measuring distance walked speed of walk MET level rest time and number of rest periods.

7. Be able to monitor pulmonary patients during a phase II exercise session using the Scott Care Software System.

8. Be able to complete a daily session report for a cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation session with accurate editing of O2 saturation blood pressure rating of perceived exertion scale dyspnea scale comments to include breath sounds and response of patient to session.

9. Review patient progress with Medical Director/Supervising Physician every 30 days revising plan to assist patient to meet their maximum potential for improvement in exercise nutrition psychosocial behavior smoking cessation and risk factor reduction.


Qualifications

Graduate (BS degree) from approved exercise physiology/exercise science program at the University or college level.

BLS required. Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP) with the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) within one year of being hired as a full time or part time employee and maintain certification while employed as an exercise physiologist this department.

12 months relevant experience with diseased and well population or Internship in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Experience with patient education arrhythmia recognitions and 12 lead EKG interpretation. Training in Scott Care EKG telemetry monitoring system one on one coaching relative to lifestyle management & risk reduction PhysioControl EKG monitor/defibrillator exercise prescription cardiovascular and pulmonary disease process interview skills patient assessment skills use of all exercise equipment oxygen saturation monitoring.
