Responsibilities

Job Summary:


Provides retail and administrative support functions for the distribution and sales of durable medical equipment (DME) for Franciscan Health Systems facilities and retail stores. Work is generally performed in a retail store or clinical setting within a FHS facility.

Work includes:

1) dispensing products to patients as determined by the healthcare provider,

2) instructing patients on the proper use of DME products,

3) explaining insurance and reimbursement criteria to patients, and

4) maintaining appropriate records and performing retail support tasks.


Basic knowledge of the function and use of a wide variety of DME products, as well as the application of Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing, are required. Work also requires a high level of customer service skills, and involves interaction with physicians, patients, staff, other FHS departments, and outside entities to promote DME products and to facilitate efficient and cost-effective operations.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists customers in meeting their specific Durable Medical Equipment needs as determined by the healthcare provider; measures and fits patients for products as necessary.
    Provides routine instructions to educate patients and families on the proper use of products in order to facilitate safe and effective equipment use and desired care, treatment and service outcomes.
  • Explains insurance eligibility and reimbursement criteria to patients and/or family members; determines patient benefits and eligibility criteria for products dispensed to ensure patient fully understands whether insurance coverage is available; conducts financial/sales tasks related to retail store.
  • Maintains appropriate records and conducts routine administrative tasks necessary to support DME retail outlet and DME department.
  • Conducts retail tasks necessary to support DME retail outlet, such as participating in inventory control and ordering activities, receiving and stocking inventory, setting up product displays, documenting equipment, specialty items, and supplies, etc.

  • Performs related duties as required.


Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements:


One year of customer service related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities (preferably in home medical sales or equivalent).

  • Insurance processing experience highly desirable
  • Medical Equipment knowledge preferred.
