Overview

JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values and under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Supervisor, the Equipment Technician will perform all retrieval, cleaning, stocking, and assembling of equipment used in the Respiratory Care Department. The equipment technician will assemble and distribute emergency kits throughout the hospital. The Equipment Tech will perform maintenance on equipment as needed and as he/she is able to assist the Supervisor in any quality control and infection control activities. Medical gas cylinder management will be within scope of practice.

Responsibilities
  1. STOCKING 
  • Backup for the Supervisor in the area of inventory control and ordering of supplies. 
  • Receive supplies and stock shelves in such a way as to keep the respiratory department running smoothly. 
  1. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR 
  • Perform routine maintenance and sterilization of equipment. 
  • Perform needed repairs on all respiratory equipment including complex items under the guidance of the Supervisor and Biomed.  
  • Perform pre-use checks on adult ventilators 
  1. QUALITY CONTROL 
  • Perform cultures and maintain appropriate records for the department disinfection processes. 
  • Assist in the quality control activities relating to the hospital's medical gas system. 
  1. CLEAN, STERILIZE, ASSEMBLE, AND DISTRIBUTE EQUIPMENT  
  • Clean, disinfect, assemble, and restock emergency supplies for emergency kits. 
  • Retrieve, dissemble, clean, reassemble, and stock all equipment for therapeutics and long term care.
  • Clean, disinfect, and assemble adult ventilators.
  1. COMMUNICATION 
  • Serve as a resource person for respiratory therapy equipment in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Provide education in equipment processing for respiratory therapy students and new employees. 
  1. OXYGEN 
  • Oxygen procurement around the house. 
  • Monitors number of E cylinders available for use by therapists and replaces empties with full when supply runs low. 
  1. NON-TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE 
  • Cleans and restocks the departmental satellite areas. 
  • Other duties as asked by Respiratory Staff.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent or student in a Respiratory Therapy Program. 

Experience: Prior experience cleaning equipment or working in infection control areas as an equipment technician or an unlicensed student in a Respiratory Therapy Program. 

Physical Requirements: Must be in good physical condition, able to lift, transport, and move heavy objects. 

Skills: Must be able to read and comprehend moderately complex material relating to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the department's equipment. Must possess a thorough knowledge of respiratory supplies, instruments and equipment.
