Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Provides Educational offerings and programs within the Respiratory Care Department and also effectively meets the learning needs of the hospital staff, patients, and the community. Plans, implements and evaluates in-services, orientation, staff development activities, certifications, safety programs, skills training, and continuing education offerings in collaboration with hospital administration, the hospital wide education committee, and hospital personnel for the improvement of patient care. Promotes the professional development of individual hospital personnel through educational guidance and promotion of participation in educational offerings. Participates in community and patient education activities. Working Relationships:    The Clinical Educator is responsible to the Manager of the Respiratory Care department. She/He will collaborate with other members of the health care delivery team, such as directors, clinical nurse specialists, nursing staff, other hospital department staff, new graduates, faculty, physicians, and medical representatives. Daily contact is with co-workers, hospital staff, medical staff, patients, families, visitors and general public.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Must be able to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs., sit, walk, stand extensively and be able to perform fine and gross motor skills. Physical coordination, mobility, verbal articulation, vision, and learning must be easily performed. May be exposed to blood, body tissue and fluids regularly, as well as other hazardous waste materials. 
  2. Must be able to tolerate environmental temperature fluctuations. May be exposed to radiation, toxins, dust, cytotoxins, and/or poisonous substances. 
  3. May be exposed, periodically to physical injury, burns, noise, and some electrical hazards. 
  4. Must also be able to walk, stand extensively, bend, stoop, squat, visually discriminate close objects, hear and distinguish normal sounds. 
  5. Licensed Respiratory Therapists are qualified to perform respiratory care procedures as evidenced by education, training, experience and competency assessments.  Preceptor supervision will be required during onboarding and orientation.  The therapist should be able to independently carry out all respiratory therapy procedures at completion of orientation.  Critical care competencies may require additional education and training (i.e. intubation, arterial line insertions) Once these competencies are completed the employee is able to independently perform the procedures
  6. Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

An associate degree with extensive educational experience.

Experience in educational and/or staff development is needed.

Required Licensure and Certifications

RESP-LIC:KY;

CRT

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Maintains yearly designated competencies.
