Launch Your Sonography Career at St. Joseph Medical Center! - Student Sonographer Opportunity

Are you a highly motivated sonography student eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive environment? St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, is seeking a talented Student Sonographer to join our team!

This is a temporary classification for students currently enrolled in the final year of an accredited Diagnostic Sonography training program. As a Student Sonographer, you will perform ultrasound examinations at a technical level under the direction of a licensed provider, gaining invaluable experience in accordance with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements.

What You'll Do:

Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will:

  • Master Ultrasound Techniques: Execute a variety of diagnostic ultrasound exams offered by the department, adhering to American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) standards and department protocols.
  • Optimize Image Quality: Determine the correct techniques to obtain images of the highest quality and resolution.
  • Assist in Advanced Procedures: Determine suitable areas for needle aspirations and/or tissue biopsies for pathologic diagnosis and participate in intra-operative procedures.
  • Be a Patient Advocate: Serve as a liaison between patients, interpreting physicians (Radiologists), and referring physicians, explaining testing procedures to patients and ensuring emergent exam results are relayed promptly.
  • Contribute to a Smooth Workflow: Perform incidental office duties as necessary to maintain the completeness of the patient record, ensuring accurate data entry and appropriate billing.
  • Support Quality Improvement: Assist with Quality Assurance/Improvements audits and activities as required.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Enrollment: Currently enrolled in the final year of an accredited training program in Cardiac and/or General diagnostic sonography.
  • Knowledge: A solid understanding of the current principles, procedures, and techniques relating to ultrasound examination and related procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with the functionality, operation, and application of ultrasound equipment.
  • Compliance: Knowledge of the standards and regulatory requirements applicable to diagnostic ultrasound examination.
  • Communication: Ability to read, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Teamwork: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Certification: Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
