Responsibilities

Job Summary

  • Position Summary: This position reports to the Director of Academic Affairs/Designated Institutional Officer (DIO). 
  • The Program Director will support the Director of Academic Affairs/DIO by providing reports on all aspects of graduate medical education and clinical delivery services provided by the residents as well as oversight of the clerical function of the SJMC designated specialty Residency Program. 
  • The incumbent is responsible for assuring that residents in the SJMC designated specialty Residency receive clinical medical training in the designated specialty of that meets and exceeds the ACGME Special Requirements for Graduate Training in designated specialty The position is responsible for developing curriculum coordinating and presenting didactic lectures integrating designated specialty principles with the medical curriculum overseeing education and clinical care in all program- related patient care areas and both supervising and conducting medical care to the residency program patients.
  • The position is responsible for monitoring and evaluating resident progress and coordinating resident training with other medical faculty other clinical providers and staff and other educational program components at St Josephs Medical Center and other off-site facilities. Position Scope: This position is identified to the ACGME as the program director. 
  • This position is responsible for the oversight and direction of the residents as well as participation in all of the educational and clinical activities of the SJMC designated specialty Residency Program on a daily basis. 
  • This includes supervising conducting coordinating directing and controlling both patient care and educational efforts of the department in order to provide clinical and teaching support to the residents other trainees other faculty physicians other clinicians and educators of the program. 
  • A unique feature of the incumbents role is to counsel advise and direct resident physician trainees regarding their clinical and educational development within the residency program.
  • In addition the incumbent will participate in the evaluation interviewing ranking and selecting of qualified applicants to the residency on an annual basis. 
  • The incumbent will participate in the assurance of compliance with the changing and evolving requirements of outside accrediting licensing and surveying agencies. 
  • Major Challenges: Maintain accreditation requirements. 
  • Provide the residents in the SJMC Internal Medicine Residency with clinical education throughout their training period and in coordination with other teaching faculty to facilitate each residents professional development. 
  • As the identified direct contact for ACGME the incumbent has the freedom to make major changes to the program according to ACGME guidelines. This position has the accountability and authority to develop curriculum standards and evaluation tools in clinical Internal Medicine education; to teach consult counsel and evaluate performance.
  • In conjunction with other faculty the incumbent has the authority to assure academic due process where disciplinary action is required. 
  • The incumbent is to work independently to initiate tasks within the residency program and to complete all assigned tasks. 
  • This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. 
  • It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. 
  • The employee shall support the Organizations strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

Qualifications

Experience Education Licensure & Special Skills

  • Minimum required 3 years Accredited teaching program and previous experience in practice of both inpatient and outpatient family practice OR designated specialty.
  • General education in a health-related field or a combination of education and experience
  • A current and valid license as physician and surgeon in the State of California. Current or pending certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Licensure: MD:CA
  • Effective written and oral communication skills basic word processing and communication software skills.
  • Working knowledge of the laws and ethics governing clinical practice requirements of the ACGME general and special requirements for post-graduate medical education. 
  • Requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
