Responsibilities
Franciscan Medical Group, a part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is currently seeking a PER DIEM Nuclear Med Technologist for our Franciscan Cardiovascular Consultants in Silverdale, WA. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our patient centered team. This individual will support a fast paced Center for Cardivascular Health Team. Day shift with no weekends or organizationally recognized holidays. NO CALL REQUIRED!
Job Summary:
This job is responsible for operating nuclear detection and imaging equipment and preparing radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear radiologic studies to provide the physician diagnostic images of the structure and function of the heart or other organs and body structures to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition. Incumbents use a gamma scintillation camera, or scanning imaging devices to monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which the administered radiopharmaceutical drugs localize. Work is performed under the strict safety/regulatory/license departmental standards and protocols.
Incumbents are also accountable for maintaining quality control for all imaging equipment and radioactivity assaying devices and maintaining their knowledge of the frequent technological and innovative changes in the field of nuclear medicine through participating in continuing education, seminars, meetings and in-services.
Essential Duties:
Prepares equipment for imaging tests, based on physicians’ orders and in adherence to department safeguards and protocols to ensure quality results.
- Calibrates cameras and equipment in accordance with internal protocols; selects filters, slice selection, display parameters, image intensity and labeling techniques to ensure high quality images.
- Verifies proper operation of equipment prior to use; checks radiation-monitoring devices and advises appropriate parties if problems are identified.
- Utilizes equipment/accessories and employs techniques/procedures to ensure that results are consistent.
- Ensures that sufficient supplies are on hand to perform procedures.
- Cleans equipment after each use.
Prepares patient and performs nuclear medicine procedures.
- Explains procedures to patients and responds to questions; regularly performs basic functions in regard to patient care; responds to emergency situations consistent with scope of authority.
- Administers radio-pharmaceuticals to patients; utilizes equipment/accessories and employs techniques/procedures to protect the patient, self and others from unnecessary radiation.
- Performs nuclear medicine procedures; uses appropriate camera and nuclear medicine computers in accordance with internal protocols to enhance the diagnostic value of information obtained from nuclear medicine procedures.
Maintains records and logs as required by department protocols and licensure requirements.
- Logs patient dose administered, progress notes and other pertinent data.
- Maintains accurate patient records by documenting the patient chart with pertinent information.
Disposes of and stores radioactive materials as required by law.
- Stores radioactive materials/waste in appropriately labeled and shielded containers.
- Removes radioactive and waste materials from exam rooms to proper storage or disposal location.
- Surveys waste leaving the “hot” lab for radiation levels in excess of established standards.
Performs incidental general office duties to include; answering phone; scheduling; filing; maintaining patient records; ordering supplies.
- Participates in the ordering and inventorying of equipment and supplies.

Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education/ Work Experience:
Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program resulting in an associate's degree or bachelor’s degree.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Washington State certification as a Radiologic Technologist.
- Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) (N).
- Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
