Responsibilities

Job Summary:

To perform the complete range of technical, clerical and patient care functions necessary for the efficient operation of the Neurodiagnostic laboratory.

Essential Functions:

  • Routine and emergency adult and pediatric EEGs, as well as cerebral death procedures. Responds to emergency after-hours EEG requests as deemed bona-fide by the neurologist or director. Takes weekend call and works holidays on a rotating basis.
  • Processes EEG recordings for filing and all clerical tasks associated with neurodiagnostic studies.
  • Participates in quality assurance program, maintenance and updating of procedure manual, and safety program. Maintains all neurodiagnostic equipment, accessories and supplies.
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.
  • Shows good judgment in evaluations of patient testing; bases opinions on sound principles.
  • Technically performs and evaluates EEGs & EPs in a skilled and knowledgeable manner.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in setting priorities, revising priorities as needed, in order to maintain high level patient care and departmental cost effectiveness.
  • Utilizes the principals of the IDEA program. Thoroughly explains to each patient the procedure about to be performed; relaxes and reassures patient in order to ensure cooperation, compliance and optimal technical results. Greets patient in a courteous, professional manner; responding with empathy and using positive interpersonal skills. Introduces self and refers to patient by name.
  • Always attempts to understand patient needs, responding accordingly and with appropriate course of action.
  • Always respects the confidentiality of patient records and uses complete discretion when discussing patient matters.
  • Maintains a learning relationship with Neurologist for on-going technical integrity and improved patient care.
  • Maintains all neurodiagnostic equipment, accessories and supplies. Cleans equipment and accessories, maintains a neat patient area and work space. Performs routine Safety and preventive maintenance checks on all equipment used. Follows policies and procedures as outlined in the Safety, MSDS, and Infection Control Manuals.
  • Maintains the Neurodiagnostic Quality Assurance Program.


Qualifications

Minimum

  • HS Graduate/GED
  • Six months experience in a healthcare setting
  • Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Preferred

  • Acute care experience with Electronic Medical Record or Cerner experience strongly preferred
