Responsibilities

The Dignity Health Cancer Institute is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to join our dynamic team! At the Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center we offer access to many national cancer trials through the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) as well as pharmaceutical and Investigator Initiated trials. This allows us to bring the latest treatments and technology to our patients with different types of cancers offering groundbreaking options for improved patient outcomes. At Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s our experts lead trials that are not offered elsewhere in our state.


The Oncology Research Nurse plays a key role in ensuring assigned studies are conducted in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) Good Clinical Practices (GCP) Institutional Review Board (IRB) HIPAA regulations and institutional requirements which include but are not limited to the following duties:


● Knowledge of regulatory requirements and institutional requirements when conducting study protocol(s).
● Assists with participant recruitment including pre-screening potential participant follow-up and collaboration with Investigators.
● Coordinate research subject informed consent and enrollment into appropriate research studies with the investigators.
● Present investigational treatment education, treatment alternatives, and treatment risks and benefits.
● Performs and/or coordinates a variety of procedures/tests including but not limited to laboratory tests/phlebotomy, vital signs, ECG, outcome assessments, cognitive evaluations as well as other needs as outlined in the study protocol(s).
● Identifying clinically significant events through patient assessments and review of a variety of medical documents.
● Obtains medical history medical records and all other procedures outlined in the study protocol(s) within the allowed timelines.
● Responds to patient inquiries via phone or in person in a timely manner.
● Processing and shipment of laboratory samples collected as outlined in the study protocol(s).
● Provides participant education with the Investigators, research pharmacists and other members of the research study team such as study specific procedures diary/study log proper dosage/administration and specific restrictions as outlined in the study protocol(s).
● Completes case report forms data entry and maintains source documentation for all study participants.
● Prepares for participant visits including scheduling and source document creation.
● Triages tracks and reports adverse events and deviations to the Investigator as well as the sponsor and IRB in accordance to their requirements.
● Coordinates research monitor visits and responds to all data queries in a timely manner.

● Following institutional standards of research practice within his/her scope of duties and responsibilities.


In summary, the Clinical Research Nurse manages and coordinates all facets of assigned clinical protocols from IRB preparation through query and data seal; ensuring protocol and regulatory compliance.


Qualifications

Experience:

One year of clinical RN experience required
One year of RN experience within clinical research highly preferred.


Education
Bachelors degree in related field required

Master’s degree in related field preferred


Licensure
Arizona RN license or RN license from Compact state
