Security Officer Lead
The posted compensation range of $12.71 - $17.47 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities
The Lead Security Officer has a dual role within the security program. In addition to their duties and responsibilities as a security officer, they also are assigned administrative duties to ensure program continuity when department leaders are not available. As the Lead Security Officer they are responsible for ensuring that assigned posts are staffed, all security incidents are properly responded to and documented in accordance with department procedures. The Lead Security Officer also serves as the primary site contact for law enforcement agencies when senior Security leadership is not on site. It is expected that the Lead Security Officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with CommonSpirit Health core value and humankindness. The Lead Security Officer shall support CommonSpirit Health’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Provides leadership for Security Services
- Ensures delivery of quality services; regulatory compliance, and manages operations efficiently and effectively.
- Assist with oversight of the campus security and parking enforcement
- Plans, organizes and directs work assignments. Assists with training of security staff.
- Ensures that all Security Officers assigned to the shift meet program standards, including uniform and grooming standards
- Assists with the implementation and maintenance of security procedures to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Makes recommendations to improve physical security and/or department operations.
- Prepares all required shift paperwork.
- Conducts ongoing security orientation and training of assigned staff and may serve as Field Training Officer.
- Ensuring that the employee perspective is the driving force behind your actions and business decisions; crafting and implementing service that meets employees and the organization’s needs. (Focus also includes internal and external customers

- Understanding of how to anticipate, recognize, and deal effectively with existing or potential conflicts at the individual, group, or situation level, and the ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situation
- Wears ID badge; knows hospital code identification; reports all unsafe conditions or work hazards; aware of environment; uses common sense, adheres to patient/visitor identification policies.
- Knowledge of and ability to employ required tools, techniques and technologies to minimize losses due to breaches of physical premises security
- Knowledge of and ability to implement the measures necessary to safeguard an organization’s employees and visitors
- Able to properly and effectively use de-escalation techniques
- Participates appropriately in disaster drills; understands the role in emergency situations.
- Understanding the need to carefully evaluate the impact of incidents and emergency situations and choose the best path forward and ability to select and assertively communicate actions and activities that maximize security response.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; and six (6) months experience as security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, OR
- Prior law enforcement or military service experience; OR
- One year experience as a security officer
- Preferred: (International Association of Healthcare Security Services (IAHSS) Basic & Advanced courses within 90 days of position appointment.)
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Current TX driver’s license with satisfactory DMV report on file or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire if facility requires the position to operate a motor vehicle.
- Non Commissioned Security Officer license within 3 months of employment start date.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days of employment.
- Maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed by CommonSpirit Health.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:
- Completion of NIMS compliant ICS 100HCb, 200b, & 700a courses to be completed within 90 days of employment.
- Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally, and in writing.
