Clinical Pharmacist
The posted compensation range of $24.00 - $34.78 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
The Pharmacy Resident is an active participant in an intensive one year post-graduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency training program to develop extensive knowledge and clinical skills to provide effective pharmaceutical care.
The Pharmacy Resident participates in comprehensive pharmacy services including: rounds with medical teams, pharmacokinetic consultations, parenteral nutrition consultations, anticoagulation management, antimicrobial
stewardship monitoring, medication reconciliation, discharge counseling, and compliance with clinical pathways and protocols. The pharmacy resident will work centrally and decentrally to perform all functions of a registered pharmacist
including accurate dispensing, clinical interactions with the healthcare team, patient involvement, and supervision ofpharmacy technicians. The resident will serve as a resource to other health care professionals through educational and
training programs. The pharmacy resident will gain an appreciation of the interrelationship of clinical systems, technology and distribution systems to provide an effective medication-use system. This PGY1 pharmacy residency
program will build on the resident’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions,
eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Pharmacists completing this residency program will be well-rounded pharmacy practitioners and future leaders in pharmacy practice,
who are prepared for advanced level practice at a community-based hospital or a PGY2 residency.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collaborates with health care providers to individualize medication therapies to promote safe, efficacious, and cost- effective patient care following best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
2. Contributes to formulary management and works with health care providers to ensure formulary compliance.
3. Develops and provides educational programs, learning modules, and knowledge assessment tools.
4. Educates other health care professionals regarding medications to promote optimal patient care via in-services,
educational programs, face-to-face interactions, etc.
5. Reviews, interprets, and evaluates all medication orders for patients in all age groups.
6. Maintains patient medication profiles in an automated pharmacy information system.
7. Consults with and advises medical, nursing, and other healthcare providers regarding the prescribing, dispensing, or administration of medications.
8. Routinely monitors the patient’s total drug therapy for effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, toxicities, drug interactions, and incompatibilities.
9. Participates actively in cardiopulmonary emergencies.
10. Conducts assigned target drug monitoring programs and concurrent drug use evaluation activities as required.
11. Performs and documents Pharmacist Intervention activities such as recommendations on drug product selection, dosage adjustments, and appropriate drug therapy.
12. Obtains medication histories on selected patients and communicates pertinent information to the appropriate healthcare provider.
13. Communicates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers as necessary.
14. Prepares and/or verifies the appropriate preparation of medications (including sterile preparations) to be dispensed using the correct technique, as required.
15. Provides drug information and discharge counseling to patients, as required.
16. Provides staffing coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, as required.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Degree.
Licensure or Certification:
Licensed as a pharmacy Intern by the state of Arkansas prior to pharmacist licensure
Licensed as a registered pharmacist by the state of Arkansas within 90 days from the first day of employment. Extended time requests will be reviewed by the Residency Advisory Committee.
Membership in American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) is required.

Skills:
The Pharmacy Resident must have training in on-line drug information resources, pharmacy automation, IV preparation, and computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Interpersonal and Communications Skills are required to maintain smooth cooperative working relationships with others. The Pharmacy Resident must respond quickly to inquiries and exercise good listening skills.
The Pharmacy Resident must promote customer satisfaction as evidenced by positive interaction with customers, prompt resolution of problems, and recommendations for quality improvement.
Physical Requirements:
At various times, the following physical activities will be required: climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in
excess of lifting 50 pounds and pushing 100-150 lbs.
The sensory and communicative activities required for the position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling and speaking.
The Pharmacy Resident is required to have the ability to see clearly at 20 or less inches, to see clearly at 20 feet or more, the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and to have the visual acuity to perform daily activities.
The Pharmacy Resident is subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents andexposure to chemicals or bodily fluids), and infectious diseases.
