About the Role:

As our Language Access Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all patients and families at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) receive culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate care. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement innovative solutions that bridge communication barriers and foster a welcoming environment for all.

Your Impact:

  • Build Capacity for Certified Medical Interpreters: Develop partnerships with local educational institutions and community organizations to create pipelines for future generations of certified medical interpreters.
  • Strengthen Community Partnerships: Collaborate with VMFH Community Health and Clinical Education leaders to foster relationships with community partners. Create partnerships to support the ongoing health of patients with a preferred language other than English, including post-hospital discharge support.
  • Identify and Implement Innovative Solutions: Work closely with diverse patient and community populations to identify specific tools and resources needed for effective communication. Utilize data to inform decisions and create tools that support language recognition and facilitate quick access to interpretive services.
  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Keep abreast of new trends, regulatory activities, professional standards, and industry practices related to language and interpretive services.
  • Ensure Compliance: Understand and ensure compliance with federal guidelines and The Joint Commission standards regarding patient/family interpreter services.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or healthcare-related field (including associated language studies) and three years of related professional/program management experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities.  
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities may substitute for the degree requirement.
