St. Joseph's Medical Center is a cornerstone of healthcare in Stockton, CA, proudly serving the community as part of the CommonSpirit Health ministry. SJMC is on the cusp of a transformative expansion project that will update the current facility, technology, and infrastructure, bringing a state-of-the-art medical center to the heart of Stockton. This phased expansion includes the addition of a new Acute Care Tower with 24 new ICU beds, 120 new general acute patient beds, a 70-station Emergency Department, a cutting-edge 10-room surgical suite, and a new parking structure. We are also expanding our physician residency program, improving patient experience, and enhancing seismic safety. Up to two new emergency response heliports will further strengthen our ability to serve the community in critical times.
As we embark on this exciting journey, we seek a visionary Hospital President to lead St. Joseph’s Medical Center into the future, ensuring the successful execution of this expansion and the continued excellence of our healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:Lead the development and implementation of hospital strategy in alignment with CommonSpirit Health's mission, vision, and values. Oversee the execution of the SJMC expansion, ensuring that all phases are completed on time, within budget, and meet the highest quality and safety standards.
- Operational Oversight: Direct and manage all operational aspects of the hospital, including clinical services, support services, and administrative functions. Ensure that the hospital operates efficiently and effectively, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
- Financial Management: Oversee the hospital's financial performance, including budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation. Develop and implement strategies to enhance revenue, manage costs, and ensure the hospital's long-term financial sustainability.
- Clinical Innovation: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and clinical innovation. Implement best practices to reduce unnecessary variations in care, improve patient outcomes, and reduce costs.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strategic relationships with physicians, community leaders, regulatory bodies, and other external partners. Act as the hospital's ambassador to the community, ensuring that SJMC remains a trusted and valued healthcare provider.
- Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the hospital's leadership team. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth within the organization.
- Community and Patient Advocacy: Ensure that the hospital's services meet the needs of the community, particularly the underserved and vulnerable populations. Champion initiatives that enhance the patient experience and improve access to care.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a complex, multi-site healthcare organization, including acute-care hospital operations. At least five (5) years of direct management experience is required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field is preferred.
- Leadership: Proven track record of leading large-scale projects, managing multidisciplinary teams, and driving organizational change. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, execute plans effectively, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of healthcare finance, including budgeting, financial analysis, and revenue cycle management. Ability to develop and implement strategies to improve financial performance while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Clinical Knowledge: Deep understanding of healthcare service models, clinical practices, and regulatory requirements. Ability to apply this knowledge to improve clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire staff, physicians, and community members.
- Commitment to Mission: Strong alignment with CommonSpirit Health's mission of building healthy communities and advocating for the poor and vulnerable.
