Responsibilities
  • The work operates in a low barrier environment operating under a harm reduction framework within the milieu of a therapeutic community of HIV+ low income adult clients that are socially complex, the majority of whom have a psychiatric diagnosis, an addiction, are homeless, have a criminal history, recently or repeatedly incarcerated, and/or are sexual minorities.
  • Oversees an Emergency Homeless Shelter staff of 16+ Shelter Staff representing a diverse team with often conflicting attitudes and priorities, and guiding the shelter team in providing consistent clinical care.
  • Ensures team adherence to established processes, in particular ensuring completion of the Nightly Checklist.
  • Leading team huddles, and ensures inter-shift communications. Ensures adequate staffing of the shelter and fills in as needed for staff absenteeism.
  • Contributes to care plans that address (1) behavioral issues, (2) viral load suppression, and (3) housing insecurity with positive healthy behaviors through recognition and rewards. Care plans must address equity for underserved and/or vulnerable populations.
  • Provides housing and life skills training and education during groups and leading activities.
  • Manages behaviors in a milieu that are often disruptive, aggressive, and territorial, and contributing to innovative behavioral care plans to address root causes of behaviors, limit punitive interventions, and have specific outcomes as goals. Mediates conflicts, provides de-escalation and crisis intervention, and models appropriate problem solving. Contributes to managing a milieu within a therapeutic community.
  • Works within a multi-disciplinary team and refers and coordinates care as appropriate, in particular to Housing Manager, HEET, chemical dependency, occupational therapy, and behavioral health. Attends multiagency meetings (e.g., Shelter Learning Circle) and multi-agency care conferences (e.g.,Lifelong).
  • Acts as an advisor to a multidisciplinary team. Serves as liaison to internal (e.g., RCP and Outpatient Day Program) and external resources (e.g., case management agencies, mental health agencies) who regularly interface with BBH teams.
  • Ensures regulatory and contract compliance, and documents notes in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experiencing leading and managing others. Experience working in a low barrier environment operating under a harm reduction framework.

  • Experience working with People of Color (POC) and socially complex populations with traits that include low income, mentally ill, addicted, homeless, criminal history, recently or repeatedly incarcerated, and/or are sexual minorities. Experience mediating conflicts, providing de-escalation and crisis.

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred.
