Dominican regularly receives ‘A’ grades for hospital safety from Leapfrog Group and has received national recognition for superior patient safety cardiac care and stroke treatment from Healthgrades a leading provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.As Santa Cruz County’s heart attack (STEMI) receiving center Dominican Hospital provides cutting edge cardiac care. The hospital’s heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient’s chest.Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Neurosurgery at Dominican is also offered through a partnership with Stanford Health Care.


Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Directs operations related to the clinical laboratory. Provides overall direction to laboratory managers/supervisors. Creates alignment with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to foster open communication. Oversees all workflows to maintain the highest standard of quality and service. Prepares and manages the budget for costs related to the clinical laboratory.

Position Description:

  • Works closely with hospital staff, department directors and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained.
  • Writes and updates procedures and manuals as needed; reviews employees annually to ensure they have current information needed to perform tests and procedures.
  • Manages, updates and takes responsibility for the quality of laboratory work processes.
  • Prepares the laboratory budget for costs such as personnel, equipment, supplies and consumables, and ensures adherence to it.
  • Provides leadership for all laboratory services in accordance with Dignity Health policies and procedures and regulatory agencies. Manages departmental directors and staff members and ensures that they adhere to quality and service standards.
  • Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission CMS and other regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures department directors standardize processes and procedures to increaser the quality and efficiency of laboratory work processes.
  • Provides guidance to departmental directors on the development of the laboratory budget for costs such as personnel equipment IT laboratory systems supplies and consumables.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive Laboratory Services experience in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, of which three (3) of those years with an emphasis on management of a Medical Laboratory.

Licensure:

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), or equivalent required. Additional state licensure as needed is required

Special Skills:

  • Business case development including financial analysis.
