Responsibilities

Performs a large variety of routine and complex tasks in the laboratory as requested by supervisor. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values.

  • Facilitates and documents the flow of all patient specimens into and out of the laboratory.
  • Prepares specimens and deliver to instrument workstations in preparation for processing on automated equipment by the Clinical Lab Scientists.
  • Completes all patient and client billing and updates the computer workload files each day.
  • Following patient registration, meets and instructs patients in proper specimen collection techniques.
  • Performs venipuncture or skin puncture on all patients at any of the hospital drawing stations: ER, Med/Surg, Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital, San Andreas Convalescent Hospital, Out Patient, etc. and records their test and patient information in laboratory computer system.

Qualifications

Experience: 

Any phlebotomist work, hospital experience preferred.

Education: 

Graduate of a Medical Assistant or Lab Assistant school preferred. High School graduate or GED.

Licensure: 

CPR certification required. Within ninety days of employment obtain the Phlebotomy certification from a course approved by the State of California.

Special Skills: 

Able to do work in spite of frequent interruptions Able to read work product of others, computer/ monitor screens, computer printouts High level of concentration and attention to detail Interacts appropriately with others.
