Overview

For more than 70 years Mercy Medical Center Redding has offered comprehensive health care in the North State providing acute care and a full range of medical services. The 267-bed hospital offers major medical services including a Level II Trauma Center as well as specialized Cardiovascular Care Stroke Care Orthopedics Neurological Surgery Comprehensive Cancer Care Maternity Care and da Vinci Robotic Surgery. It is the sole provider of obstetrical services along with the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Shasta County. In addition the hospital’s network of care includes Mercy Home Health and Hospice and Dignity Health Connected Living. Mercy Medical Center Redding is a member of the Dignity Health system and is a sister facility to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff and Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta. Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant/Medical Office Representative II (MA/MOR II) position is responsible for knowing his/her professional scope of practice as defined by the California Business and Professional Code. This role is responsible for back office and front office duties. The MA maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment, and performs patient care services that support the physician/ provider's practice under the clinical supervision of the Registered Nurse. The MOR II is the first point of customer contact and is responsible for coordinating all patient requests for referrals and authorizations. This position may have access to third party credit card information and transactional systems (cash registers, point of sale devices, applications supporting credit card transactions, and reports or other documents containing credit card information) from single transactions or a single card at a time.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant in a outpatient medical office, physician clinic or OB office setting or with possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program and recent Medical Assistant experience required. (If operational conditions exist and no qualified candidates apply, the employer may consider a combination of education, experience and skill in lieu of the (1) year of experience as a Medical Assistant).
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Satisfactory completion of formal Medical Assistant program pursuant to the Division of Allied Health Professions or military training that is equivalent to an accredited Medical Assistant program (determination by Dignity Health Medical Foundation HR department in conjunction with the State Division of Allied Health).
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, and customer service skills. Medical terminology, familiarity with CPT and ICD- 9 coding procedures and reference tools, and pharmacology appropriate to the Medical Assistant scope of practice is essential. Keyboarding skills and the ability to utilize computer equipment and software are required as is experience with other types of standard office equipment.
  • BLS through American Heart Association

PREFERRED:

  • 6 months experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Assistant. 6 months experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Office Receptionist/Clerk or an equivalent amount of experience in a high volume customer service role in another industry/environment working with referrals or scheduling procedures. Experience in billing is preferred.
  • Associates degree in related field preferred.
  • CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT (CT MA)
  • Familiarity with an electronic practice management system is preferred. Experience with multi-line phones/ACD phones preferred. 
  • Medical terminology preferred.
