Responsibilities
Remote Position Postdoc position A postdoctoral position is available at the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) working with Dr. Richard Dortch as part of a collaborative effort between the Barrow Neuroimaging Innovation Center the Department of Neurology and the Department of Neuroradiology. This preclinical work will focus on the validating imaging biomarkers of nerve injury and recovery. Applicants will also have opportunities to directly interact with collaborators in neuroradiology neurosurgery and industry in an effort to move these imaging biomarkers into the clinic. Motivated candidates will also have opportunities to develop independent and relevant research projects. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics engineering or a related discipline. Competitive candidates will have experience with pulse sequence/image reconstruction development and/or quantitative MRI acquisition/analysis. This position which is fully funded for two years (and renewable up to three years based on performance) is available immediately and offers competitive compensation and benefits. BNI is the world’s largest neurological disease treatment and research institution and the Department of Neurology at BNI is a recognized leader in the field. In addition Barrow is ranked #11 by U.S. News & World Report in the neurology and neurosurgery category. Outstanding imaging resources are available at BNI including clinical 1.5T and 3T Philips a research-dedicated 3T a 7T preclinical Bruker MRI microPET and optical imaging scanners.
The Barrow Neuroimaging Innovation Center has a long-standing tradition of developing new imaging technologies and bringing them to market. To facilitate this we have established strong collaborations with industry and academic partners which ensures that the novel imaging methods developed at BNI are translated into product sequences for widespread dissemination. The BNI is also a major hub for neuroscience research and a wide range of neurology subspecialties. In support of this effort the Barrow Neurological Foundation provides robust philanthropic support exceeding $18M/year all of which benefits patient care research and education at BNI. Qualifications
Experience
Laboratory or clinical research at the postbaccalaureate level with an interest in a faculty member's line of study required.
Beyond minimum required, experience writing research reports concerning own work and familiarity with a biomedical discipline preferred.
Education
Ph.D., post-baccalaureate M.D. or D.Sc. degree or equivalent in a relevant field of endeavor required.
Doctoral degree in a relevant field of endeavor preferred.
Special Skills
Familiar with basic computer, mathematical, scientific, reasoning, and oral and written communication skills as appropriate required.
