Responsibilities

The Neuroscience Publications Department at Barrow Neurological Institute leads the academic publishing industry in author services focused entirely on the neurosciences. We provide editorial and media expertise to support residents, fellows, attending physicians, and researchers at Barrow. Our illustrators, animators, graphic artists, and video editors work closely with authors to create elegant, accurate visual content using the latest industry standards and technology to achieve higher visibility and faster publication.

Barrow Neurological Institute is seeking a Medical Graphics Specialist to join our team. Our medical graphics specialists handle formatting, labeling, and copyright on all figures (e.g. diagnostic and surgical images, charts, graphs, medical illustrations) that accompany academic publications, including journal articles, textbook chapters, and presentations. They edit and recreate charts and graphs to match our Barrow style. They create simple medical graphics, infographics, and 2D animations as needed.

Medical graphics specialists take in new projects, coordinating between the visual media team, editorial team, and authors, while maintaining image organization and meeting deadlines. They serve as a main point of contact for project-related inquiries and updates, working with illustrators, animators, and editors to ensure consistency and quality across all visual content.

In addition, the role focuses heavily on copyright, permissions, and the management of custom media assets. Medical graphics specialists research copyright laws, ensure compliance, maintain and manage copyright documentation, and request and obtain necessary permissions for the use of copyrighted materials.
