Responsibilities

Position Summary:

  • Operates diagnostic imaging equipment to produce clinical diagnostic x-ray images.
  • Performs diagnostic radiologic procedures on neonatal pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients.
  • Ensures images are delivered to PACS in proper sequence position along with all required documents.
  • Performs daily room checks at end of shift and signs check list prepares room equipment supplies and contrast media as needed.
  • Directly assists the physician in the performance of procedures.
  • Positions and communicates instructions to patients before and during procedures.
  • Ensures the clinical history is appropriate for the exam that is ordered.
  • Ensures patient safety through appropriate monitoring during the procedures.

General Duties:

  • Using a knowledge of diagnostic procedures instructs and prepares patients based on age size or disorder of patient for radiographic or fluoroscopy examinations to assure patient cooperation during the procedure. Using knowledge of correct radiographic positioning and anatomy based on age size or disorder of patient positions patient and equipment so as to obtain a clear and undistorted view of the area being examined. Confirms correlation of the patient's clinical history with the exam being ordered.
  • Interacts with co workers and staff from other departments in a positive manner to deliver quality patient care. Based on the age disorder education psychological needs and size of the patient makes adjustments to the radiographic technique to obtain optimal diagnostic images. Prepares patients for radiology procedures including explaining exam and instructing patients to remove any personal items or clothing that will compromise image quality.
  • Uses knowledge of radiation safety collimates the x-ray beam and uses shielding appropriately to assure optimal patient and operator safety from exposure to radiation. Competently operates portable imaging equipment. Transports portable equipment to the nursing units. Follows nursing unit requirements to maintain a safe environment for patients and medical personnel. Uses knowledge of film processing or digital image manipulation to ensure optimal image processing. Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality and completeness based on age size or disorder of patient. Communicates with Radiologist issues that may affect quality or ability to obtain the required images.
  • Monitors the patient during and after procedure to insure the patient's safety. Transports patients from the nursing units safely. Maintains assigned area and equipment. Maintains competence in the operation of all equipment used. Reports equipment failures and promptly initiates corrective action. Transport equipment to other areas as required. Practices effective radiation protection when using portable x-ray equipment on the nursing units. Assumes responsibility for completion of all assigned duties and responsibilities. Provides documentation of duties to supervisor as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures optimum operation of the department through good attendance history and flexibility with assigned shift. Is on time for scheduled shift.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must possess and maintain a current California radiography certificate (CRT) and national registry certificate (ARRT).
  • Must possess and maintain a current Fluoroscopy certification within six months of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support certificate (BLS).
  • Required to take call.
  • Required to work weekends on a rotational basis.
