Job Summary / Purpose
The certified athletic trainer functions in two primary roles:
- As a traditional athletic trainer. In this capacity, the trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic health services to include pre-practice and pre-game preparation, injury/illness evaluation, first aid emergency care, follow-up rehabilitation, and related services all under the advice and consent of a licensed team physician. The trainer may be asked to function in this role at an educational institution and at community athletic events.
- As a rehab aide in an outpatient rehabilitation setting. In this capacity, the trainer must perform the job duties of a rehab aide.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- As a certified athletic trainer in the educational or community event setting, evaluates assigned athletes according to the acceptable practice guidelines and in compliance with department policies and procedures.
- As a certified athletic trainer in the educational or community event setting, implements competent treatment and intervention and provides regular re-assessments for the purpose of treatment modification, to maximize athletes’ potential for functional independence, all in accordance with acceptable practice guidelines and department policies and procedures.
- As a certified athletic trainer in the educational or community event setting, completes required documentation and maintains pertinent record of assigned athletes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- As a rehab aide in the outpatient clinic setting, assists in the delivery of treatment to the rehab patient population according to acceptable practice guidelines and in compliance with department policies and procedures.
- As a rehab aide in the outpatient clinic setting, completes required documentation and maintains pertinent records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates the ability to be efficient and productive by organizing job duties and responsibilities.
- Maintains effective communication regarding therapy programs, facility programs, and departmental/programmatic issues.
- Maintains equipment and environment in a sage and orderly manner.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional growth, department growth and competency.
- Contributes to the organization and operation of the department/programs within Community Based Rehab’s strategic plan and mission statement.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required Education for Staff Job Levels | Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field from and accredited college/university. |
Required Licensure and Certifications | Nationally certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association. Licensed or eligible in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. |
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Clinical skills required vary based on practice setting and programmatic needs of the facility. Equipment knowledge: Computers, therapy modalities, therapy exercise equipment, therapy diagnostic and testing equipment. Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies. |
PREFERRED Qualifications | Experience in an outpatient rehab setting strongly preferred. Experience in a high school or collegiate environment preferred. |
