Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Under the direction of the Practice Manager and health care provider, the Medical Assistant Lead takes a leadership role in the department, acting as a trainer, resource and mentor for other Medical Assistants and staff. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: measures blood pressure, records weight, temperature, pulse and respirations and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. Involves extensive interaction with diverse populations including patients, family members and all members of the healthcare team.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Direct and guide back office staff in monitoring and expediting workflow.
  • Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, allergies, health history, information on chief complaint, health risk factors, and assess disease condition.
  • Execute prescribed treatments and medical interventions; administer prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Refer to/consult with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion of testing.
  • Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep patient exam rooms clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
  • Communicate with patients regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician.
  • Formulate and document patient care plans, charts, tests and examination results in the medical record.
  • Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or physician.
  • Work with healthcare providers to facilitate training of new hires and other training initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the practice manager or physician.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications


Required Education and Experience


High school diploma or equivalent required.

May require specialized training such as Non-Certified Radiologic Technician (NCT).

Required Licensure and Certifications


BLS-CPR

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training

4 years Medical Assistant Experience
