Overview

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke’s Health. Located in the Texas Medical Center the hospital is the home of the Texas Heart® Institute a cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley MD. The hospital was the first facility in Texas and the Southwest designated a Magnet® hospital for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center receiving the award five consecutive times. Baylor St. Luke’s also has three community emergency centers offering adult and pediatric care for the Greater Houston area.


Responsibilities

Sr. Planning Analyst is responsible for coordination of planning analytics across the assigned Region. Develops, structures,and leads strategic data analysis, synthesis of data and communication of insights in support of the clinical portfolio. Provides analytical support for strategic and business development planning projects/ studies/ processes of a quantitative and qualitative nature necessary  to meet local and system-wide strategic planning and business development requirements. Provides analytical support to the assigned Region’s Chief Strategy Officer and administrative leadership team under the guidance of the System VP of Strategic Intelligence to meet local and system-wide strategic planning and business development requirements. 

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Analytical Support:Provides support to the local business development and strategy functions, including: Analytical models for assessing and forecasting, special studies, market assessments and competitive analyses, quantitative analysis and justification for new business opportunities and  capital projects, preparation of business case documents.   Provides analysis of external and internal data sources and develops related presentations to support senior-level decision-making. Provide analytical support as needed to assist Marketing and Sales staff in the markets with identifying growth opportunities and tracking growth performance. Runs complex analyses, forecasts and builds databases and  data models.  
  • Ad Hoc analysis / Business Development support: Conduct special research, data gathering, analytical and other project support as needed to promote strategic planning, business development and growth for the Region and associated markets.  Monitors business plan results achieved and/or progress against identified benchmarks in order to assess the need for recommended changes to strategy or measures.  
  • Synthesis and Communication of analyses: Synthesizes and presents analytical findings, key insights  and key recommendations to small and large group forums both verbally and in written formats.  Produce presentations, reports,  maps, graphs and other visual displays.  May participate in organization strategic planning sessions and foster trust with organizational leadership and key stakeholders
  • Project Support: Provide support, including project management, to assigned leadership in meeting system strategic planning and business development requirements including but not limited to Strategy Review / LRSFP, Certificate of Need, Medical Staff Development Plan, Community Health Needs Assessments, Network Integrity assessments, business plans and special ad hoc projects.
  • OTHER DUTIES:Develop a feedback loop between Strategic Planning and internal clients to ensure relevance of analytics offerings. Shares  initiatives across markets and with peers in other Regions to share best practices.  Performs other duties and projects as assigned by manager

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Economics, Science, Math, Computer Programming or another related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in planning, marketing and/or business development, preferably in the healthcare industry.
  • Preferred: Five (5) years experience in planning, marketing and/or business development, preferably in the healthcare industry.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

  • Advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel and interactive database tools to complete analyses. Additional knowledge of:
    • Statistical and analytical techniques
    • Strategic planning principles and practices
    • Market research, including survey development and analysis 
    • Software tools: including  Data analysis (Microsoft Excel - expert level;) Word processing – proficient level; Data Base (Power BI  - proficient level); Mapping – proficient; Presentations proficient;
    • Ability to use relational data sets/ tools such as Sg2 and claims data sets;  and Cost Accounting systems
  • Demonstrated ability to :
    • Appropriately prioritize projects of varying complexity and with competing deadlines.
    • Work independently with little to no supervision under any and all situations. Independent decision making and problem- solving capabilities in project planning and data analysis. 
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; solid written and verbal presenter of analytic findings and other deliverables
    • Diplomacy, tact and professionalism in interpersonal contacts.
    • Ability to collect and organize complex data, understand/interpret its significance/application and produce accurate/timely reports and presentation-ready materials designed to fully inform and influence decision-making processes.
    • Flexibility and organization to respond to changing priorities, deadlines and multiple simultaneous project responsibilities.
    • Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date and effective databases.
    • Ability to regularly update supervisor regarding status of projects and request direction/approval as required.
    • Discipline to maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive business matters
