Responsibilities

The Cardiology Technician is responsible for performing all cardiac diagnostic procedures, primarily: EKG and EKG MUSE Medical entry and records. Cardiology technicians may also be responsible for EEG, treadmill exercise tests, Holter monitoring and scanning, pacemaker analysis and telephonic arrhythmia monitoring.

  • Performs EKG and is responsible for EKG Muse entry and medical record retrieval to assure all EKG's are in the Muse system in a timely manner

  • Recognizes abnormal EKG readings notifying appropriate person (RN, MD) if abnormal EKG is potentially life threatening
  • Checks emergency resuscitation/crash cart equipment daily and assures equipment is available during procedures
  • Stocks supplies for all testing procedures
  • Scans Holter recordings to detect arrhythmias and processes report for physician review
  • Performs EEGs per protocol for both inpatients and outpatients; adult and pediatric
  • Adjusts machine settings to obtain acceptable recording data
  • Determines proper filter settings, paper speed, and reference electrodes
  • Recognizes basic EEG patterns
  • Selects appropriate groups of electrodes to records and measure specific types of cerebral activity
  • Maintains proper equipment; notifying bio-medical technician for repairs as appropriate

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider
  • An EKG course completion within 30 days of hire is required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Preferred:

  • Preferred graduate of a program for cardiovascular technology or certification from the National Board for Cardiovascular Technology
  • Completion of basic arrhythmia class preferred
  • EEG experience preferred
  • One year experience performing EKG's and treadmill exercise testing in an acute care hospital preferred
