Responsibilities

Job Summary:

In our mission to deliver the highest quality most cost effective care to the communities we serve Dignity Health has formed a comprehensive community-based sports medicine program in partnership with the Sports Medicine Program. Part of this program is the provision of highly qualified athletic trainers to our communitys schools. This position will be responsible for providing athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician (which includes the management and provision of care of injuries to a physically active person as defined in the state practice act with the direction of a licensed physician). Athletic Trainers shall serve at various high school locations within partnered school districts and will collaborate with team physicians in the areas of: Injury/Illness Prevention and Wellness Protection Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis Immediate and Emergency Care Treatment and Rehabilitation Organization and Professional Health and Wellbeing.

To be successful in this role you must have a passion for sports medicine and working with student athletes. You will also have experience in guiding athletes on how best to maintain overall health 

Responsibilities: 

  • Attend practices and games
  • Strong understanding of the challenges athletes face, proper nutrition, sports injuries, and treatment options
  • Design training and rehabilitation programs for athletes
  • Use knowledge of sports-related injuries to diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate  athletes
  • Assist and monitor injured players as they heal and progress towards recovery
  • Understanding of first-aid treatments, massage, and physical therapy techniques, and equipment
  • Reports every severe injury to the principal, school nurse, coach, and athletic director
  • Refer athletes to another doctor or other medical staff members

Qualifications

Minimum

Experience:

Secondary school or collegiate level athletic training experience preferred

Education:

Bachelors degree from an accredited athletic training education program (i.e.)  Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education).

Master's degree in athletic training from an accredited athletic training education program related field preferred

Licensure:

Licensure from the State of Arizona Board of Athletic Training; Certification from the Board of Certification of Athletic Trainers (BOC)

BLS American Heart Association

Special Skills:

Familiarity with and understanding of AIA and NFHS governing rules for required sports preferred
