The System Vice President (SVP), National Programs will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and leading the real estate and strategic national program functions with a focus on IT networks and systems, medical equipment replacement, sustainability, facility infrastructure components and systems, and built environment refresh for CommonSpirit Health (CSH). This role will lead initiatives spanning multiple geographies and services lines within the organization, requiring administration with a unified national budget and delivery program. This will include critical functions of project intake, capital program budget development, aligning stakeholders, initiative approval, program optimization, and reporting by developing and maintaining dash boards that leverage real time data analytics. The System VP will align national programs with the organizational goals and objectives, ensuring they support National, Regional, and Market strategies with a focus on modernization of the real estate and facility portfolio.

This role will manage resource alignment and project staffing across all of National Real Estate Services (NRES) platforms to support the key strategic and programmatic initiatives in the portfolio. The SVP will serve as the point of contact leading the program teams on broad strategic initiatives with multi-dimensional stakeholders and national and regional partners. They will partner and collaborate with all the service and delivery platforms within national real estate to deliver programs such as the IT networks, Infrastructure, Sustainability and Refresh programs.

The SVP will lead the development of innovative procurement and delivery solutions, along with crafting capital planning and forecasting solutions. These efforts will involve blending internal and external resources to optimize each initiative for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and minimal disruption. Ultimately, the objective of the System VP is to leverage the combined scale and resources of CommonSpirit and NRES to strategize, plan, develop, implement and operationalize programs of national scale that will further the evolution of OneCommonSpirit.


Responsibilities

The following represents the essential functions and responsibilities of the System Vice President role:

  • Develop and implement a multi-year national programs strategy integrating people, processes and technology into an innovative delivery platform that will support all geographies and business lines.   
  • Build and structure teams to effectively deliver both the strategic initiatives and ongoing national programs, combining existing team members, new hires, regional/market resources, and 3rd party partners. 
  • Structure teams to focus on each program and initiative to maximize success, establish teams for both national programs and strategic initiatives: 
    • National Programs 
      • Information Technology – Network and Infrastructure 
      • Facility Infrastructure (Envelop, MEP, Electrical, Conveying, Site)
      • Sustainability
      • Build Environment (Floors, walls, ceilings, signage, furnishings)
    • Strategic Initiatives (examples)
      • Cath lab refresh 
      • Nurse call
      • CommonSpirit Brand conversion   
  • Establish and maintain the leanest delivery structure and team possible to produce consistent results that will meet each programs goals and objectives.  
  • Integrate the NRES support services platform to leverage the national programs teams, streamlining, and standardizing the delivery of each initiative.
  • Partner with key stakeholders across national services and the regions including – SSRM, FP&A, Finance, Clinical Engineering, IT, Clinical – Nursing, and National Clinical Services Teams, to ensure the program development consistent with the charter or leadership mandates. 
  • Establish policies, procedures, and guidelines for the implementation of multi-site programs, manage a systematic evaluation and refresh to ensure they remain current and relevant.  
  • Report consistently on the program status to leadership and key stakeholders, develop real time dashboards, and standard reports – finances, scope, schedule, risks 
  • Implement the NRES Project Delivery Manual in accordance with CSH policy, participate in updating and ever greening to maintain the relevance of the manual as the health system matures and evolves.  
  • Lead the development and implementation of system wide design standards and guidelines for the infrastructure, refresh, and IT network programs. Integrate sustainability standards in all aspects of the guidelines.  
  • Develop and manage comprehensive program budgets, take responsibility for ensuring that individual project budgets and the overall program budgets are met – each FY and over the duration of the program. 
    • Responsible for multi-year budgets, FY budgets, and accurate forecasting to meet the projected annual cash flow 
  • Ensure proper data collection, analytics and storage within the NRES and CSH Single Source of Truth.
  • Participate with NRES in the development and maintenance of technology and project management software solutions to manage the complete programs. Ensure alignment with the NRES project delivery solution.
  • Implement a procurement and contracting strategy integrated with the NRES support services platform and national programs in IT, Finance and Supply Chain with the goal of leveraging the organizations scale to achieve the best value in each element of the program
    • Develop and maintain a preferred provider and vendor network, refreshing on a normal cycle
    • Partners with legal to develop and implement a suite of legal documents and contracts that will support the implementation of the program
  • Oversees the partnership with IT for the development and implementation of a rolling multi-year IT Network Infrastructure plan that aligns with the evolving IT business strategy for a modern network that one EMR, ERP, AI, and a digital customer experience. 
  • Oversees the development and implementation of a rolling 10 year infrastructure and refresh strategy that will align with the optimization and operation of the CommonSpirit portfolio and evolving business strategies. 
  • Maintain subject matter expertise, leverage this through speaking and supporting other faith based systems as they seek to implement successful system wide programs. Learn from the mutual collaboration. 
  • Leads by example, serving as a role model for others in the organization by exhibiting CSH’s core values, while recognizing employee accomplishments, communicating with clarity and focusing on results, and communicating the need for a healthy work-life balance.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or related development background is required.
  • Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in real estate or strategy will be considered valuable.
  • 20+ years experience with increasingly significant leadership and management responsibilities in facilities management, project management, or real estate administration with a primary healthcare focus.
  • Demonstrated success in the planning and implementation of large scale programs with multi-site and multi-state delivery requirements. 
  • Experience leading the implementation of complex healthcare programs with significant scale and with appropriate degrees of complexity.
  • Demonstrated success in building and implementing multi-faceted delivery strategies for multi-site healthcare systems.
  • National project management experience, understanding of the regulatory and jurisdictional realities across multiple markets.  
  • Understanding of the CA seismic program administered by HCAI and how this will influence the delivery of projects
