Job Details
As the Surgical Services Director at CHI Saint Joseph East, you will help ensure our patients receive the highest quality care and experience while prioritizing our team members safety and satisfaction. To be successful in this role, you will communicate the organization’s goals to nursing staff as we constantly seek to improve patient experiences, reach out to our community, and deliver quality care. At the same time, you will be an advocate for your team by bringing any issues, requests, or new ideas to the table.
Every day you will lead a clinical team in taking pride in the quality of care we provide to our patients. You will have oversight of regulatory compliance, staffing, and fiscal responsibility. Responsibilities
Contributes to the fulfillment of the CHI Health mission and vision by planning, designing, implementing and maintaining programs, policies, and management systems in all facets of patient care administration in assigned departments. Contributes to the integration of services between departments to assure patient-centered care needs are met and quality, cost-effective care improvements are achieved. Serves as a role model for the ethical management behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of CHI Health.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Closely collaborate with surgical services department leadership to effectively oversee the OR, SPD, Pre/Post/PACU/PAT, anesthesia, and Endoscopy.
- Collaborates on the development of action plans in alignment with movement toward value-based care.
- Develop hospital score cards including cost, quality and experience metrics designed to ensure the surgical services is delivering value.
- Assist in the development of capital budgets to ensure financial health of surgical services.
- Partner with medical staff to develop and strengthen relationships and engagement.
- Participate in the creation of facility and technology needs to support surgical services.
- Participate as needed in provider recruitment efforts from establishing priorities to interviewing and selecting candidates.
- Manage and coach performance including: setting goals, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance progress, providing feedback, recognizing, developing skills and addressing performance issues related to work and our commitments using corrective action if necessary with surgical services leaders.
- Assure appropriate level of understanding, awareness and compliance with all applicable Joint Commission, federal state and agency laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards.
- Maintain a system of management reporting to CNO/VP of Patient Care Services and VP of Cardiovascular & Stroke Services that provides the system with timely and relevant information on all aspects of areas of responsibility.
- Participates in the development of quality indicators and responds to a full range of financial, service and quality indicators in all areas of responsibility.
- Assume responsibility for such duties and projects as assigned.
- Promote a culture of customer service focused on patients, families, visitors, physicians, other departments and the community.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with the medical staff & develop and implement programs and processes to support staff, patient, and physician satisfaction.
- Demonstrate work practices consistent with CHI Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs as assigned.
- Work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment.
- Demonstrate responsibility for maintaining and updating knowledge/skills in the fields of nursing, health care management and areas of responsibility. Participate in appropriate professional organizations and develop a professional network.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education
- Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree strongly preferred.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 7 years experience as an RN in Surgical Services and 5 years progressive leadership experience
