The Senior Vice President (SVP) for the Physician Enterprise (PE)  Operations California Region plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare at CommonSpirit Health. Reporting to the System SVP of Physician Enterprise with a dotted line to the assigned Region President, you will be a key member of the national governance team, responsible for developing and implementing system-wide strategies and standards across a broad spectrum of areas.  This highly impactful leadership role requires strategic vision, operational excellence, and a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape.  You will lead the ambulatory portfolio for the California region, driving growth, innovation, and exceptional patient and provider experiences.

Hospitals: 29 acute care, nine Department of State Hospitals, one behavioral health hospital, five critical access/rural hospitals, and five trauma centers.

Ambulatory Care: Hundreds of clinics and physician offices, 24 ambulatory surgery centers, 18 cancer centers, over a dozen urgent care/express care sites, and 20+ imaging centers.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance: Develop and operationalize system-wide strategies and standards for PE operations, access, quality, patient and provider experience, provider compensation, financials, service lines, academic affairs, and population health.
  • Regional PE Leadership:  Lead the strategic direction and operational excellence of the PE within your assigned region, ensuring alignment with CommonSpirit Health's mission, vision, and values.  Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies, budgets, and medical staff development plans.
  • Provider Engagement & Collaboration: Partner with physician and regional leaders to foster engagement, build a shared clinical vision (including quality, standards, variation reduction, health equity, and patient experience), and align strategic and economic incentives.
  • Culture Transformation: Lead the transformation to a results-oriented culture, implementing standardized practices and metrics while addressing unique market needs.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) against national, regional, and system benchmarks to optimize access to care, provider growth, clinical performance, and value.  Manage provider compensation and incentive plans to ensure market competitiveness and alignment with PE strategies.  Lead Value-Based Care Initiatives.
  • Service Line Development & Expansion: Direct and oversee designated healthcare assets, service lines, and delivery models. Plan and implement new services using diverse business models and strategic partnerships.
  • Integrated Clinical Enterprise: Collaborate with the National PE Executive Team, Regional Leadership, Physician Leaders, and stakeholders to advance CommonSpirit Health's integrated clinical enterprise strategy.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

Medical degree (MD or DO) with a solid clinical and administrative background.

Minimum 10 years of executive or senior healthcare leadership experience in a complex, multi-site health system, including ambulatory and outpatient service delivery, high provider/employee engagement, and effective physician relationships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional leadership skills in team building, physician/staff relations, and dyadic leadership models.
  • Proven leadership in a large, complex, integrated healthcare system.
  • Track record of successfully developing ambulatory clinics and physician practices.
  • Deep understanding of medical groups and physician alignment structures.
  • Strong healthcare operational and financial acumen.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization and influence across various levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inspiration, inclusiveness, and humankindness.
