The Tax Supervisor is responsible for reviewing federal, state and local tax returns for CHI and our local
“Market Based Organizations” (“MBO’s”). The Tax Supervisor serves as a primary contact for tax issues
raised by Tax Analysts, Senior Tax Analysts, National Office staff and assigned MBOs. The Tax
Supervisor supervises projects and tax returns as assigned by Tax Manager, and assists in coordinating
the return preparation process via scheduling and monitoring progress of projects / tax returns. The Tax
Supervisor has primary responsibility for maintaining our tax return calendar ensuring that new filing
responsibilities are properly identified and recorded, that all upcoming due dates are known and that the
filing of returns are properly tracked. The Tax Supervisor will oversee assigned tax-related projects
including ASC 740-10, tax planning activities, and tax research. Prepares returns as needed.


Responsibilities

1. Performs detailed reviews of tax returns ensuring that they have been prepared in compliance
with federal, state and local tax laws and CHI policies and procedures. Ensures that extensions,
returns and estimates are filed timely, and that associated tax payments are submitted. This
includes Forms 990, 990-T, 1120, 1065, 5227, state income tax and sales and use and other tax
and information returns. Prepares tax returns as necessary.
2. Serves in a supervisory role with respect to projects and tax returns assigned by Tax Manager.
Assists in managing the tax return preparation process, ensuring that tax organizers are updated,
tax return preparation due dates and associated budgets are established, and preparation
milestones are achieved.
3. Serves as primary contact for issues raised by Tax Analysts and Senior Tax Analysts, working to
identify complex tax issues and assisting Tax Managers and Directors in resolving the issues.
4. Serves in a supervisory role with responsibilities to hire, train, and oversee the tax staff. Mentors
and develops tax staff via coaching, knowledge sharing, and the completion of performance
reviews.
5. Serves as a consultant to the MBOs, National Staff, Tax Analysts and Senior Tax Analysts for a
variety of tax issues including: payroll, sales and use, income (including UBI), property taxes and
exempt status issues. Independently resolves routine tax questions, obtains reviews of
conclusions and appropriately documents advice given in accordance with tax department
policies.
6. Establishes processes to efficiently prepare and review tax returns including updating the tax
organizers in accordance with changes made by the IRS and state and local taxing authorities.
7. Assists with tax-related training of Tax Staff, and other staff members who participate in the tax
return preparation process by means of in-person training, web conferences, phone calls, emails
etc.
8. Reviews FAS 109 & ASC 740-10 computations for year-end audit.
9. Responsible for staying up to date on changes in the law and / or tax filing requirements that may
impact CHI’s or the MBO’s tax positions, and appropriately adapts the tax review process to
satisfy those requirements.
10. Assists the managers and directors with the coordination of IRS and State Department of
Revenue audits.
11. Assists managers and directors in the development of tax policy for CHI and MBOs.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required, Master’s degree preferred.
    CPA or attorney preferred.
  • Past experience with Big 4 CPA firms strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of four years experience in tax preparation and tax research required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred.
