Principal Systems Engineer
The posted compensation range of $59.53 - $86.32 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities
- Develops organizational policies, standards, and guidelines for methods and tools. Sets direction and leads in the introduction and use of techniques, methodologies and tools, to match overall business requirements, ensuring consistency across all user groups. Leads the development of organizational capabilities for methods and tools (including automation) to ensure adoption and adherence to policies, standards and processes.
- Determines testing policy, and owns the supporting processes including software security testing. Manages all risks associated with the testing and takes preventative action when any risks become unacceptable. Initiates improvements to test processes and directs their implementation. Assesses suppliers' development and testing capabilities. Determines project testing standards for all phases, influencing all parties to conform to those standards.
- Sets the release policy for the organization in the context of both development and production/operations. Ensures that management processes, tools, techniques and resources (including automation) are in place to ensure that the transition of services, service components and packages are planned and compliant and that test and validation and configuration management are partnered in all release and deployment activities. Provides authorization for critical release activity and point of escalation.
- Maintain primary responsibility for strategic planning, technical roadmap development, standards and architecture.
- Oversees efforts with key vendors to understand future application product plans in conjunction with IT leadership.
- Perform project resourcing, oversight and management.
- In conjunction with the Director and/or Manager, coaches the team on personal development and develops training strategies and schedules.
- Initiates methods and approaches to meet defined business objectives. Resolves subtle complexities that often have significant implications for a program's overall success.
- Works on, and may lead, multiple projects that may span the enterprise.
- Identify automation opportunities and implement scripted solutions.
- Serves as an escalation point for complex requests and issues.
- Provide overall ownership of the Change Management process for the System Engineer team.
- Provide exceptional customer service to CommonSpirit end users, Business Stakeholders and other members of CommonSpirit ITD.
- Act as primary conduit to oversee support efforts between System Engineering and other CommonSpirit Health teams, and provide escalation and resolution functions when necessary.
- Schedule and manage all performance tuning and troubleshooting efforts.
- Review, recommend and monitor the source code/versioning management function adhering to technical management guidelines.
- Provide overall technical ownership for all support and project issues and responsibilities within the System Engineering teams.
- Design, implement and maintain a comprehensive monitoring and alerting process across all Technology Infrastructure platforms.
- Utilize standard tools and methodology to develop systems and support performance metrics.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge & expertise with CommonSpirit business processes and routines.
- Perform crisis management during high-severity operational incidents.
- Perform meeting facilitation for staff, operational support and project meetings. Act as the primary lead.
- Complete assignments as required by the Director / Manager and work effectively with all levels of leadership.
- May require on-call coverage responsibilities.
- Remote eligible.

Qualifications
- BA or BS in Computer Science, Technology, or Business discipline or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional IT experience in an IT technical or infrastructure field is required, with healthcare industry experience strongly desired.
- 5+ years of experience leading a team.
- 7+ years Unix operational experience (AIX, Linux) is required.
- 7+ years of Advanced experience with bash / korn shell
- 5+ years experience with software packaging, security patching and deployment tools is required.
- 5+ years experience with large complex environments is required.
- 5+ years VMWare experience required.
- 3+ years of experience with Red hat Satellite services.
- 3+ years of experience with Ansible playbooks/roles.
- Working knowledge of LDAP, networking, security, proxy, and storage technologies is required. Operational experience is strongly desired.
- Working knowledge of Oracle DBMS is strongly desired. Operational experience is strongly desired.
